Ferne Marie Brimmer, age 90, of Fairmont, MN, formerly of Alexandria, SD passed away Friday, November 11, 2016 at Lakeview Methodist Healthcare Center, Fairmont, MN.  Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, November 19 at the Will Funeral Chapel, in Mitchell, SD with visitation one hour prior to the service.  Burial will be at Greenhill Cemetery in Alexandria, SD.  Will Funeral Chapel is in charge of the services.

Ferne Saxton Brimmer was born June 3, 1926 in rural Hanson County, the daughter of Stephen and Clara Saxton.  She attended grade school in rural Hanson County and graduated from Alexandria High School in May of 1945.  After high school, she worked as Treasurer and Clerk of Courts at the Hanson County Court House in Alexandria and later as business manager at Inter County Electric in Mitchell for almost 40 years.  She was united in marriage to Kenneth Brimmer on July 5, 1952.  They made their home in rural Alexandria for 49 years until Kenny's death in 2002.  Ferne then moved to Alexandria and later to Mitchell in 2012 and Fairmont, MN in 2014.

Ferne had many interests including gardening, knitting and sewing.  She loved visiting her many friends.  Spending time with her family was also very important to her.  She was an active member of the United Methodist Church in Alexandria where she held the office of treasurer. She also served on the board of directors for Greenhill Cemetery in Alexandria for many years.

Ferne is survived by one brother, Wayne Saxton of Salem, SD, formerly of Alexandria and several nieces and nephews including:  Bruce Saxton (Sandra) of San Martin, CA, Barry Saxton of Lafayette, CO, Betty Saxton Nordhausen (Glen) of Fairmont, MN, Barb Saxton Duffey (Bob) of Fairmont, MN, Janell Schulz Beckman (Bruce) of Lake Preston, SD, Karen Schulz Bumann (Bill), of Lake Preston, SD, Robert Brimmer (Jackie) of Cedar Rapids, IA, Bradley Brimmer (Lisa) of Huron, SD, and Bill Brimmer (Marlys) of CA.

Ferne was preceded in death by her parents, Stephen and Clara Saxton, husband, Kenny Brimmer, brothers, Leo, Orville, Sherman and Nels, one sister, Verda Schulz, brother-in-law, Clarence Schulz, sisters-in-law Fern Saxton and Doris Saxton, niece, Beth Poole, nephew Glenn Schulz and other family members.
