Evelyn (Beck) (Hurd) McIntyre age 96, of Letcher died Friday, May 1, 2015 at Palisade Manor in Garretson, SD. Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Tuesday, May 5, 2015 at Letcher Community Church in Letcher, SD. with the Rev. Garry Swagger officiating. Visitation will be Monday, May 4, 2015 from 6 to 8 PM at the Will Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in West Lawn Cemetery in Letcher. Evelyn McIntyre, daughter of Chris and Anna (Pederson) Beck, was born on August 7, 1918, in Cavour, South Dakota with her identical twin, Ethlyn. She attended country school and then graduated from Huron High School. Evelyn married Gerald Hurd in September 1939, they had four children together; Gary, Karen, Delbert and Craig. Gerald passed away in September 1949. They purchased a farm in Letcher together; she continued to stay on the farm with their four small children and was a homemaker and loving mother. She married Richard (Dick) McIntyre in December 1952, they had one child together, Pamela. They continued to live on the farm together with all five children. For 21 years, the couple wintered in Zapata, Texas. Richard (Dick) passed away in December 1997. Evelyn continued to live in Letcher until moving to Firesteel Healthcare Center in February 2007. She moved to Garretson Palisade Manor in February 2015 to be closer to her daughter Karen. Evelyn enjoyed fishing, many hours of crocheting, playing cards, bingo and was an active member of the American Legion Auxiliary. Her greatest joy was spending time with family and friends. Grateful for sharing her life are her daughter, Karen (Neil) Diede of Brandon, SD; a son, Delbert (Carole) Hurd of Denver, CO; a son, Craig (Gail) Hurd of Colorado Springs, CO; a daughter, Pam (Gary) Heinzmann of Parker, CO and a daughter-in-law, Janet Hurd of Camas, WA; 11 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren (one expected in November 2015); and a sister, Helene Van Buskirk of Huron, SD; She was preceded in death by her parents, Anna and Chris; 5 brothers, Andrew, Arthur, Hans, Fredrick, Chris; 4 sisters, Anna, Marie, Ida, Ethlyn and a son, Gary.
