Eunice Bennett, age 86, of White Lake, died November 1, at the Aurora-Brule Nursing Home in White Lake. Graveside services will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, November 5 at the White Lake Public Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-8 PM Friday at the Methodist Church in White Lake with a prayer service at 7 PM. Arrangements are under the direction of the Will Funeral Chapel. Eunice was born August 20, 1919 to Ralph and Edna (Falk) Glissendorf in Brule County. She graduated from White Lake High School and attended Dakota Wesleyan in Mitchell where she received a teaching degree. Eunice took her first teaching job in 1938 at the Patten School in Aurora County. She later moved to Oakland, CA where she taught and married John Athey on June 30, 1943. The couple moved to Oceanside, CA in 1961. John died in 1978. She continued teaching until retirement in 1979. In May of 1989 she married Harley Bennett in White Lake. They lived in both California and Flandreau before she moved to the Aurora Brule Nursing Home of White Lake February, 2004. She had a love for elementary teaching and taught for a total of 41 years. She is survived by one son, Robert Athey, of Mohave Valley, AZ; two grandchildren, Eric and Heather, two sisters: Phyllis Mairose and Darlene Haines, both of White Lake, SD. She is preceded in death by Harley in 2004, four brothers: Darrell, Wayne, Leland, and Adelbert; and two sisters Jean Chandler and Delores Metz, and one daughter-in-law, Jean Athey.
