Eugene William Jaton, 87, Mitchell, SD died Sunday, September 18, 2011 at Avera Queen of Peace Hospital. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Wednesday at Zion Lutheran Church with burial at 1:30 PM Wednesday at the Mt. Vernon Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Tuesday at the Will Funeral Chapel with a prayer service beginning at 7:00 PM. Eugene William Jaton, son of William and Anna (Drewitz) Jaton, was born December 20, 1923 on a farm in Rural Clayton, SD. He attended country school until the 8th grade. After his schooling Gene farmed with his father on the family farm. Gene served in the US Navy during World War II. After his discharge he returned to the family farm. The family farmed near Parkston and then settled on a farm five west of Mitchell. Gene farmed his entire life until his retirement. In his retirement he continued to live the on the family until moving to Rosewood Court in Mitchell in the spring 2008. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Mitchell and also volunteered for Meals on Wheels. Grateful for having shared his life are his brother, Wayne (Elijeane) Jaton, Victorville, CA; three sisters, Isabel Smith, Mitchell, SD, Carol Paulson, Casper, WY, Vera (Bill) Hanna, Sioux City, IA; a brother-in-law, Don Larson, Huron, SD; a sister-in-law, Doris Jaton, Mitchell, SD; numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters, Florence Young, LaVerna Heisinger, Norma Stahl, Sylvia Larson; and a brother, Glen Jaton.
