Eugene Edward Farris, age 87, of Mitchell, SD died Friday, September 24, 2021 at his home. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Tuesday, September 28, 2021 at the Will Funeral Chapel with burial and military rites at Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM Tuesday, September 28, 2021 at the Will Funeral Chapel.

Eugene Edward Farris, son of Edward Theodor and Isabel Elizabeth (Bennett) Farris, was born November 12, 1933 in Monona County, IA. He attended school in Sioux City, graduating from Leeds High School in Sioux City, IA. After his schooling he entered the US Air Force and served worldwide for 20 years. Gene was honorably discharged and his family made their home in Mitchell, SD. While in Mitchell, Gene was employed at Coates Electric, Muth Electric and later taught at Mitchell Technical Institute. In his retirement he continued to substitute teach at Mitchell Technical Institute.

Gene was united in marriage with Donna Jean Johnson on December 22, 1956 in Sioux City, IA. To this union a son Rick was born.

Gene enjoyed bowling, golf and running the chains and later the clock at Mitchell High School football games and Dakota Wesleyan University football games. He truly loved being a grandpa and was involved in his two grandchildren's lives.

Grateful for having shared his life are his son, Rick (Karen) Farris, Mitchell, SD; two grandchildren, Eric (Ashley Vejvoda) Farris, Auburn, NE, Lauren (Levi Peters) Farris, Lincoln, NE; a sister, Doris Stamps, Lexington, NE; his nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife Donna Jean on August 14, 2021; his parents; and a sister, Carol Elaine Johnson.
