Obituary

Esther C. Weisser, age 92 of Mitchell, died Sunday, April 10, 2005 at Avera Queen of Peace Hospital. Services will be 1:30 PM Friday, April 15 at First Lutheran Church in Mitchell with burial in Sunset Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 PM Thursday at the Will Funeral Chapel with a prayer service beginning at 7PM. Esther Christina Lippert was born on October 4, 1912, to Jacob and Marie (Winter) Lippert at rural Tripp, SD. She grew up on a farm east of Tripp, SD and was baptized in the Baptist Church. She attended country school and worked on the family farm. Esther married Helmuth Weisser on February 19, 1931 at Tripp. They farmed near Delmont and in 1944, moved northeast of Mitchell to a farm. Her husband died in 1961 and she stayed on the farm until 1998, when she moved to Mitchell into an apartment. She became a resident of the Firesteel Healthcare Center in February, 2001. She was a member of the First Lutheran Church since the early 1950s and was active in the First Lutheran Church Women where she had served as president of Hope Circle for many years. She cleaned homes for other people and did baby-sitting for her neighbors. She enjoyed gardening. She is survived by her children: Gladys Ewing, Larry Weisser, Donna Diamond (Tom), all of Mitchell, SD; Geneva Estabrook (Denny), Huron, SD; Robert Weisser (Gyni), Rockford, IL; Mary Moline (Gary), St. Charles, MO; and Bruce Weisser (Barb), Kona, Hawaii; a daughter-in-law, Bette Weisser, of Omaha, Nebraska; twenty three grandchildren, thirty great grandchildren and six great great grandchildren. Survivors also include four sisters: Velora Uttecht, Tripp; Frieda Weiger, Mitchell; Verna Schilling and Violet Fode, both of Portland, Oregon. She was preceded in death by her husband, one son, Raymond, in Oct., 2004; one brother, four sisters, two great grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, two sons-in-law and her parents.
