Esther Lorraine Sargent, age 98, of Mitchell, SD died Saturday, February 12, 2022 at Avera Brady Health and Rehab. Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Saturday, February 19, 2022 at Will Funeral Chapel with burial at Servicemen's Memorial Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be from 12 noon to 2:00 PM Saturday February 19, 2022 at the Will Funeral Chapel.

Esther Lorraine Sargent, daughter of Garfield and Cleva (Burnett) Nelson, was born on the family farm in rural Artesian, SD. She grew up and attended country school in rural Artesian.

Esther was united in marriage with Melvin Sargent Sr. on February 7, 1939 in Woonsocket, SD. The couple lived on a farm near Artesian before moving to a farm near Plano, SD. They made their home in Mitchell in 1952. While in Mitchell, Esther was a homemaker and raised their children. After her children were grown, Esther was employed at Firesteel Healthcare Center for several years. In her retirement, she sewed and mended for the residents at Firesteel.

Esther enjoyed walking her dog and flowers, but truly loved spending time with her family.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Mitchell.

Grateful for having shared her life are her children; Karen Boyd, Omaha, NE, Kay (Dennis) Gunderson, Chamberlain, SD, Melvin "Bill" (Ronda) Sargent Jr., Mt. Vernon, SD, Kathy (Glen) Wentland, Mt. Vernon, SD, Linda Kobold, Sioux Falls, SD, Ron (June) Sargent, Rapid City, SD, Gaye (Rene) Hubbard-Figueroa, Larchwood, IA, Melody (Rich) Maeschen-Granberg, Pierre, SD, Edwards Sargent, Mitchell, SD; many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin Sargent and her daughter, Sherry Sargent.

Memorials may be directed to the Red Cross or the Salvation Army.
