Esther LaFortune, age 93, of Mitchell, SD died Sunday, September 16, 2018 at Avera Brady Health and Rehab. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Thursday, September 20, 2018 at the Will Funeral Chapel with burial at a later date at Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at Will Funeral Chapel.

Esther (Schwartz) LaFortune, daughter of John and Sarah Schwartz, was born September 5, 1925 in Parkston, SD. Esther graduated from Menahga High School in Minnesota. At the age of 18 she moved back to Mitchell, SD where she met Wallace LaFortune.

Esther was united in marriage with Wallace LaFortune on April 23, 1944 in Mitchell, SD. To this marriage three sons were born Ron, Wally Jr. and Reg.

In her younger years, Esther worked at the 6th Avenue Café, Kresge Department Store. Esther worked at Laundry Mats all her life including Klancy Kleaners and Laundry Mat and Super City Laundry Mat. She was employed at Palace Cleaners until her retirement. Esther was known as a talented seamstress, making many family clothes, repairing the Corn Palace Flags, and sewing patches and badges for the local National Guardsmen.

Grateful for having shared her life are her two sons, Ron (Lynda) LaFortune and Reg LaFortune; eight grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Wallace LaFortune on May 24, 2009; a son, Wally Jr. on April 10, 1962; her parents; two brothers and a sister.
