Ernest A. Hewitt, age 89, of Mitchell , SD died Sunday December 7, 2008 at Avera Brady Health and Rehab. Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Wednesday at the Will Funeral Chapel with burial at Greenhill Cemetery . Visitation will begin 11:00AM Wednesday at the Will Funeral Chapel.

Ernest A. Hewitt, son of Fred and Barbra (Akins) Hewitt, was born May 15, 1919 on a farm near Madison, SD. He lived on the farm south of Madison with his parents until his father died. Ernest and his mother then moved into Madison in 1930. He worked on farms and lived with his mother until she died in 1964. In the fall of 1967, Ernest moved to Mitchell , SD to live with his brother Ted. In 1968 he made his home on the Colvin Horse Farm near Ethan , SD for 30 years. While on the farm, because he loved animals Ernest helped with the animals and farm work. Ernest moved into the Brentwood Apartments in Mitchell in the fall of 1998. He then became a resident of Avera Brady Health and Rehab in the fall of 2002.

Survivors include many nieces and nephews and many great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Susan Kehr and Mary Snyder; and three brothers, Henry, Vern and Ted.
