Erma Zoss, age 89 of Mitchell died May 18, 2007 at the Avera Queen of Peace Hospital. Funeral services will be 10:30AM Tuesday at First United Methodist Church in Mitchell. Burial to follow at Sunset Memorial Cemetery in Mitchell. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 PM at Will Funeral Chapel. Erma was born December 17, 1917 in Magnolia, MN to Willard and Maude (Dean) Adams. She had four sisters and four brothers and spent her early childhood in Southeastern Minnesota. In the early 1930s her family moved to White River, SD and then to Garretson. Erma graduated from Garretson High School in 1938. She attended Wessington Springs Junior College and taught in several rural county schools. On September 1, 1945 Erma married Jacob Zoss. They lived on a farm north of Letcher where they raised a family of six children. Erma worked for several years as a nurses aid at the Methodist Hospital in Mitchell and attended Dakota Wesleyan University for several years. In 1978 Erma and Jacob moved to Forestburg, where Jacob passed away in 1988. In 1989, Erma moved to the Greenridge apartments in Mitchell. She was a resident at Firesteel Nursing Home for the 10 months preceding her death. She is survived by six children; Don Zoss (Susan), Belen, NM; Maurice Zoss (Deb), Loomis, SD; Dennis Zoss, Letcher, SD; Jackie Bowling (Al) Anchorage, AK; John Zoss (Donna) Lafayette, IN. 12 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and a brother Russell Adams, Moira, MN. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Jacob, one daughter Noretta Tines, a grandson Darin Zoss and an infant great grandson Tyler Jones.
