Obituary

Emma "Cookie" Krimbill, age 79, of Mitchell died Tuesday, February 14 at Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls. Memorial services will be 10:30 AM Friday March 2ND at the First United Methodist Church with burial at the Servicemen's Memorial Cemetery in Mitchell. Emma Louise (Cook) Krimbill known to friends and family as "Cookie" was born in 1932 in Draper, SD. At age 5 she moved to Mitchell and lived in Mitchell the rest of her life. She graduated from Mitchell Senior High School in 1950. She married Allison Clarence Krimbill (known to his family & friends as "Bus") on October 7, 1951. They had their daughter (Shirley M. Krimbill Jenkins) on October 1, 1952. Bus had 2 boys from a previous marriage - Allison Steve Krimbill (known as Buzz) and Norman Bobby Krimbill - which completed their family of 5. Emma graduated from DWU in 1967. She taught high school in Armour, SD for the next 24 years and retired in 1991. Emma and Bus were both very involved in the community of Mitchell. Emma was very proud of her Life Membership in the V.F.W. Auxiliary #2750 where she functioned as the treasurer for many, many years. She loved Eastern Star - Starlight Chapter #41 where she is a Past Matron, Daughters of the Nile, Mayflower Society, National Rifle Association as well as a founding member of the Ladies Axillary of the South Dakota Fire Fighters Association. She worked at the First United Methodist Church in the office in the early years and followed that later in life by volunteering at the church. She initiated a program to deliver recordings from the church services to the nursing home so residents could listen to the church services when it became too difficult for them to attend. She addressed birthday cards each month for those residents at the nursing home who would be celebrating their birthday. She always wanted every person to know that they were special & remembered on their birthday. She was one of the original members of the RSVP patrol group and loved that contact with her RSVP partners and the police/legal world. Cookie Krimbill will be remembered by family and friends as a strong, well educated, self-confident woman who was a dedicated wife, loving mother to Shirley (Chris) Jenkins of Denver, CO and step-mother to Norm (Chris) Krimbill, proud grandmother of 6 and great-grandmother of 4. Cookie, who took the world by "storm" and slipped away peacefully on Valentines Day to be with my Dad. We love you mom and miss you tremendously. Emma was preceded in death by her husband Bus Krimbill her step-son Buzz Krimbill and her parents Mabel and Irvin Cook.
