Elwin Robert Vlieger, age 65, of Topeka, KS, died Tuesday, July 26, 2022 at his home in Topeka, KS. Graveside services will be 1:00 PM Monday, August 29, 2022 at Graceland Cemetery in Fulton, SD.

Elwin Robert Vlieger, son of Don and Bernice Vlieger, was born November 29, 1956 in Volga, SD. He graduated from Mitchell High School in 1975. In his junior year of high school, Elwin worked at the Coca Cola Bottling Company in Mitchell. On January 5, 1976 he enlisted in the US Navy and served in California and Washington and was honorably discharged on January 7, 1983 as a MM3-Machinist Mate. He then moved back to Mitchell and later Sioux Falls. Elwin attended Tech School in Illinois for heating and air conditioning. In 1986 he returned to California where he was employed in a stationary store, worked with a friend doing home repairs and also at a restaurant as a cook.

On June 23, 2000 Elwin and his two brothers moved to Topeka, KS. While in Topeka he worked in maintenance at an apartment complex. After this, the last 12 years he worked for the Topeka Kansas Housing Authority until the time of his passing.

Elwin like to watch the Green Bay Packers and loved sports. He also like to watch Westerns, Science Shows and Game Shows. The Vlieger family loved to play games and there were many family times when they played Mexican Train, ChickenFoot, Dice, Skip-bo and Rummy til late at night with lots of laughs. Elwin did some traveling with his brothers to South Dakota and Las Vegas to visit family.

He is survived by his three brothers, Francis "Bud" (Darla) Vlieger, Fulton, SD, Dick Vlieger, Topeka, KS, and his twin brother, Eldon Vlieger, Topeka, KS; numerous aunts, uncles, a nephew and many cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Don and Bernice Vlieger; and a brother, Bill Vlieger.
