Ellen Pearl Shevlin, age 85 of Mitchell, died Sunday, May 26, 2013 at her home under hospice care. Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Thursday, May 30, 2013 at First Lutheran Church with burial at Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Wednesday at the Will Funeral Chapel with a prayer service beginning at 7:00 PM. Ellen Pearl Olson, daughter of James and Grace (Lugauer) Olson, was born in Morristown, SD on May 28, 1927. She grew up and started her schooling in Morristown, SD. Later she moved with her family to Aberdeen, SD. Ellen completed her schooling in Aberdeen graduating from Aberdeen Central High School. After her schooling, Ellen worked at Woolworths in Aberdeen and later began her career will Bell Telephone Company as a telephone operator in Aberdeen. She continued with Bell Telephone Company and was later promoted to supervisor. Ellen was united in marriage with Robert Shevlin on January 31, 1947 in Aberdeen, SD. The couple made their home in Aberdeen for a time before moving to Mitchell in 1955. In 1964 the couple moved to Rapid City, SD and then in 1969 back to Mitchell. In Mitchell, Ellen was employed at JC Penny's and later at Feinsteins. In the mid 1970's she secured her Realtor's License and was employed at a realtor at Baldwin Reality and later for Milt Fortier. After her husband's death in 1986, Ellen retired. She was a member of First Lutheran Church and was active in Altar Guild and the Wedding Committee. Ellen was a former member of the Eastern Star, the Elks Lodge and the Moose Lodge. She enjoyed playing bridge, coffee with her friends, traveling, knitting, and in younger years hunting with her husband. Grateful for having shared her life are her two daughters, Holly (Clinton) Pence, Mitchell, SD, Kelly (David ) Roth, Parkston, SD; five grandchildren; six great grandchildren; a sister, Shirley Kopke, Chamberlain, SD; sister in law Fern Olson, Aberdeen, SD and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert on October 19, 1986; a daughter in infancy, Jill on February 17, 1953; her parents; and a brother, James Arlo Olson Jr.
