Ellen Jean (Wermers) Koehmstedt, age 73, of Mitchell, SD died Tuesday, September 11, 2018 at Firesteel Healthcare Community. Memorial services will be 5:00 PM Sunday, September 16, 2018 at the Will Funeral Chapel. Visitation will be from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM Sunday, September 16, 2018 at the Will Funeral Chapel.

Ellen Jean Koehmstedt, daughter of Frank and Elizabeth (Geisen) Wermers, was born January 13, 1945 in Parkston, SD. She grew up on the family farm near Dimock, SD. Ellen attended parochial elementary school and graduated from Dimock High School. She then received her Nursing Degree from Presentation College in Aberdeen, SD

Ellen began her nursing carreer at St. Lukes Hospital in Aberdeen, SD, later moving to Denver Colorado where she was a nurse at St. Josephs Hospital. She was later married. Ellen moved to Sacramento, CA and was a nurse at Kaiser Hospital for 20 plus years. While in Sacramento, she was an operating nurse specializing in orthopedics. Ellen retired in 1990 and moved back to South Dakota.

She enjoyed cooking, fishing, camping, crafts and reading.

Ellen attended at Holy Family Catholic Church in Mitchell, SD.

Grateful for having shared her life are her two children, Nicole Koehmstedt, Kyle, TX, Brian Koehmstedt, McMinnville, OR; three sisters, Violet Wermers, Long Beach, CA, Barbara Caffrey, Brandon, SD, Grace (Jim) Radke, Mitchell, SD.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Bob and Joe Wermers; and two sisters, Virginia Tyler and Joyce Hobbart.
