Ellen Crockett, daughter of Ingebrigt and Alma (Nelson) Hegvold, was born April 7, 1926 in Mitchell, SD. She was raised in Mitchell and graduated from Mitchell High School and later Dakota Wesleyan University.

Ellen was united in marriage with Bruce Crockett on August 8, 1949 in Mitchell, SD. She took pride in being a homemaker, wife and mother to five children. Ellen and Bruce raised all their children in Mitchell which remained their permanent home.

In retirement, Ellen and Bruce spent several winters in Mesa, AZ. They also lived two years in Rapid City in the West Hills Village Retirement Community from 2004 to 2006.  However, they particularly loved living at Lake Mitchell and hosting children and grandchildren there. Most of her grandchildren would count July 4th at Lake Mitchell as their favorite holiday.

Ellen was an avid reader. She liked to garden and enjoyed bird watching. Although a very private person, she enjoyed a good cup of coffee and conversations with friends and family. She loved and supported each one of her children, their spouses and her grandchildren.

She loved to laugh, especially when she could get a reaction out of someone. She will always be remembered for her wonderful sense of humor.

She was a member of First Baptist Church and later First Reformed Church in Mitchell.

Grateful for having shared her life are her five children Barbara (Steve) Doshier, Rapid City, SD, Rex (Mary Liz) Crockett, Mitchell, SD, Paul (Luanne) Crockett, Camarillo, CA, Mary (Jon) Krall, Burnsville, MN, Janet (Gregg) Bleeker, Mitchell, SD; 14 grandchildren and four great grandchildren; also her wonderful caregivers, Christine Thorton, Mary Klentz and Lorrie Williams and her caregivers at Avera Queen of Peace Hospice.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bruce Crockett; her parents; four brothers Selmer, Sidney, Art and Norman Hegvold; three sisters, Esther Hart, Florence Streetman and Ardis Zarneke.

Memorials may be directed to Wesley Acres.
