Elizabeth Ann Schafer, age 79, of Wessington Springs, SD died Monday, May 11, 2015 at her residence. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Friday, May 15, 2015 at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Wessington Springs, SD with burial at Prospect Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM Thursday, May 14, 2015 at the Will Funeral Chapel in Mitchell with a prayer service beginning at 7:00 PM. Visitation will also be two hours prior to the service at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Wessington Springs, SD. Elizabeth Ann "Betty" Schafer, daughter of Edward and Elizabeth (Uhrich) Hogrefe, was born March 10, 1936 in Milltown, SD. She graduated from Parkston High School and received her degree from Southern State Teacher's College in Springfield, SD. Betty taught second grade in Wessington Springs, SD for two years. She was united in marriage with Glen Clifford Schafer on August 31, 1958 at St. Martin's Lutheran Church in Alexandria, SD. Betty was a full time wife and mother. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Wessington Springs, SD. At the church, Betty played the organ for 40 years, was a member of LWML, and active in the quilting ladies at the church. Betty was an excellent cook and was known for her outstanding apple pie. She enjoyed her grandchildren, reading books, trying new recipes, gardening, sewing, and picture boards of her children and grandchildren. Her greatest pleasures were her husband Glen, their five children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She also enjoyed her flowers and garden. Grateful for having shared her life are her husband of 56 years, Glen Clifford Schafer, Wessington Springs, SD; five children, Clinton and Jeanna Schafer, Wessington Springs, SD, Dean Schafer, Bozeman, MT, Ruth and Steve McInnis, Rapid City, SD, Dale and Leanna Schafer, Wessington Springs, SD, Kristi and Bob Strachan, Sioux Falls, SD; nine grandchildren; five great grandchildren; a brother; Merlyn Hogrefe, Parkston, SD. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Harold Hogrefe, a brother and sister-in-law, Harold and his wife Vera Schafer and two sisters-in-law, Ella and Doris Schafer.
