Eldon John Garvis, age 76, of Ethan, SD (wintered in Bullhead City, AZ) passed away February 19, 2014 at Western Arizona Regional Medical Center, Bullhead City, AZ. Memorial services will be 10:30 AM Saturday, March 8, 2014 at Holy Family Catholic Church. Visitation will be from 6 to8 PM Friday at the Will Funeral Chapel with a scripture service beginning at 7:00 PM. Burial will be in the American Legion Cemetery with military rites. Eldon Garvis, son of Homer and Helen (Degen) Garvis, was born May 26, 1937 in Ethan, SD. He attended country school through the 8th grade and graduated from Ethan High School in 1955. In February of 1956 he joined the US Marines and was honorably discharged in 1958. After returning from the service, Eldon had various jobs mostly with law enforcement agencies. In 1967 he began working with the US Immigration Service. Eldon spend several years working in the Seattle, WA area. Later he was with the US Border Patrol at the Havre, MT Crossing. Eldon retired in 1998 and spent his remaining years summering in Ethan, SD and wintering in Bullhead City, AZ. He traveled much of the western part of the United States, and also traveled to Africa. Through his travels he had made many friends throughout the US. Eldon enjoyed traveling, reading, Nascar racing, Blue Grass Concerts, playing cards, visiting casinos and spending time with his family and friends. Eldon is survived by his son, Josh, Blaine, WA; a brother, Don (Janette) Garvis, Ethan, SD; three sisters, Joan Garvis, Cle Elum, WA, Mary (Pat) Shevlin, Columbus, NE, Ruth Daley, Mitchell, SD; many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Elaine; and a brother, Charles.
