Elaine I. Sauvage, age 92, of Mitchell, SD died Thursday April 22, 2010 at Firesteel Healthcare Center. Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Tuesday April 27, 2010 at First Presbyterian Church with burial at the Mizpah Cemetery in Plankinton, SD. Visitation will be from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Monday at the Will Funeral Chapel with a prayer service beginning at 7:00 PM.
Elaine I. Sauvage, daughter of Isaac J. Sauvage and Jessie (Dickson) Sauvage, was born August 8, 1917 in Plankinton, SD. She grew up and received her education in Plankinton, graduating from Plankinton High School in 1937. Elaine then attended Boulder School of Commerce in Boulder, CO. She was employed in the Boulder, CO area until 1944. Elaine then returned to Plankinton and was employed at the county auditors office and Sauvage Motors until 1957. She then moved to Mitchell where she was employed at Rozum Motors and then at the Federal Land Bank in Mitchell. Elaine retired from the Federal Land Bank in 1982 and continued to make her home in Mitchell.
She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Mitchell and the VFW Auxiliary.
Grateful for having shared her life are her sister, Beulah Spencer, Longmont, CO; four nephews, Ronald Sauvage, St. Louis, MS, Jack Spencer, Longmont, CO, Terry Sauvage, Plankinton, SD, Tom Long, Sioux Falls, SD; three nieces, Lou Ann Grady, Mukilteo, WA, Carol Stoddard, Plankinton, SD, Donna Daniels, Longmont, CO; many great and great great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Louie, John and Dale; five sisters, Myrtle McBride, Gladys Prangley, Ruby Long, Lulu Sauvage, Berniece Sauvage; a special friend, Herman Assmus; and several nieces and nephews.
