Edward (Ed) Sheffield was born December 4, 1937 in Geddes, SD to William and Dena (Vander Heiden) Sheffield. He entered the US Air Force in January 1956, and was honorably discharges from the service in December of 1959. On December 28, 1957, he was united in marriage to Marliss Schryvers. Upon his discharge, the couple settled near Plankinton, SD, where he began farming. Ed worked for the State Training School from 1965 to 1978 and was a plumber for several years. He completed his GED and attended and graduated Mitchell VoTech with a degree in Agriculture Marketing and Management in 1975. Ed owned and operated a commercial lamb feed lot near Humbolt, SD. Following hip replacement, the couple moved to Mitchell to retire. Ed continued to do part time work. Ed was an active member of the Mitchell Wesleyan Church. Throughout his life he was also active in the Lutheran Church and Nazarene Church of Madison, SD. Ed enjoyed caring for lambs and other farm animals, his dog Ginger was often there assisting him in working with the lambs. He also loved studying the Bible and very active with his children and grandchildren. Grateful for sharing his life are his wife Marliss, of Mitchell, SD; son, Michael (Starla) Sheffield, of Lake Point, UT; daughters, Tamera McGowan, of Mitchell, SD and Linda (Terry) Vigil of Gillette, WY; six grandchildren; brothers, William (Norma) Sheffield, of Brookings, SD, Charles (Wanda) Sheffield, of Madison, SD and Robert (Laura) Sheffield, of Highmore, SD; sisters, Clara (Walt) McIver, of Cheney, KS and Bonnie Sheffield, of Fairbanks, AK; brothes-in-law, Alvin Schryvers, of Albuquerque, NM, Robert Schryvers, of Rapid City, SD and LeRoy Gerlach of Morrison, CO and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, John, Fred and Don; two sisters-in-law, Alice Sheffield and Linda Schryvers and brother-in-law, Lyle Gerlach.
