Obituary

Edward J. Grosz, 83, of Mitchell, SD died October 13, 2006 at Avera Brady Health and Rehab. Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Tuesday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Mitchell with burial at Sunset Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 PM Monday at Will Funeral Chapel. Edward J. Grosz, son of Julius and Katherine (Drefs) Grosz, was born March 11, 1923 on the family farm in Douglas County, SD. He attended Rocky Ridge County School #29 and later attended three years of high school in Armour, SD. Ed graduated from Wagner High School. While attending school in Wagner, Ed was employed with his brother Ervin at the local hatchery. After his schooling, he was employed in Armour at Nase Hatchery. Ed was united in marriage with Irene Fideler on January 11, 1944 in Armour, SD. The couple moved to Omaha, NE for a brief time where Ed was employed at a packing plant. In 1944 they returned to the Armour area and began farming northeast of Armour. They continued to farm until November of 1959 when the couple made their home in Mitchell, SD. While in Mitchell, Ed was employed in construction and carpentry work. Ed was involved in the building of Interstate I-90, and later built homes for Fullerton Lumber. He retired in the late 1980s. In his retirement, Ed made wooden crafts and furniture. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Irene, Mitchell, SD; five children, Jim Grosz and his wife, Jeanie, Mitchell, SD, Gary Grosz and his wife, Marilyn, Fort Mohave, AZ, Gwen Albright, Cardiff By The Sea, CA, Barb Wilson and her husband, Paul, Black Hawk, SD, Lynette Schreck and her husband, Paul, Mitchell, SD; 7 grandchilden; 7 great grandchildren; 2 step great grandchildren; a sister, Leona Neugebauer, Allison, IA. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Ervin Grosz; two sisters, Gertrude Fink and Marie Gilbertson. Memorials may be directed to the Trinity Lutheran Church.
