Edith Marie Tyerman, age 92, of Mitchell died Saturday, February 16, 2013 in Freeman, SD. Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Saturday, March 9, 2013 at First Lutheran Church, Mitchell, SD with burial at Graceland Cemetery in Mitchell. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at First Lutheran Church. Arrangements are under the direction of Will Funeral Chapel. Edith Gutormson, daughter of John and Christine (Johnson) Gutormson, was born August 10, 1920 in Roslyn, SD. She attended country schools in Day County and graduated from Webster High School, Webster, SD. After high school, she started working for Bell Telephone as an operator in Webster and Britton, SD. In 1957, she and her husband moved to Atwater, MN, where they owned and operated a grocery store. She and her three children moved to Mitchell, SD in 1962. She worked for Bell Telephone until the local office closed in 1976. In 1970 she married Earl B. Tyerman and for the next seven years they shared a wonderful and fun-filled life together. They were a part of the Horseless Carriage Club of Mitchell and they loved to drive their 1938 Buick to car club meetings throughout the region. Earl passed away in 1977. In her retirement, Edith raised a large garden on East 4th Street and held regular rummage sales in the spring and summer. She enjoyed having her grandchildren stay with her during the summer months, and the great family get-togethers at Thanksgiving and Christmas. Edith loved her house, her garden, quilting, building doll houses and collecting antiques. In April 2010, Edith became a resident at Oakview Terrace Nursing Home in Freeman, SD where she spent the last years happy and well taken care of. She was a member of First Lutheran Church of Mitchell for over fifty years, and an active member of the women's circle. She leaves behind her loving family, Gary (Charlene) Forbes, Tucson, AZ, Marcia (Leslie) Flohrs, Ormsby, MN, Reverend Jeffrey Forbes, Austin, MN; eight grandchildren, Keahi Brown, Puanani Forbes, Jesse Flohrs, Sara Harrington, Joseph Flohrs, Alexandra Forbes, Abigail Forbes and Caleb Forbes; and three great grandchildren, Makaio, Cyan, and Issa. She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl, her parents, her five brothers and three sisters.
