Obituary
Duane T. Zard age 62, of Mitchell, died Thursday, March 17, 2011 at the VA Hospital in Sioux Falls. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Tuesday, March 22, 2011 at the Will Funeral Chapel. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 PM Sunday at the Will Funeral Chapel.
Burial will be in the American Legion Cemetery with military rites.
Duane was born August 12, 1948 in Mitchell to Thomas and Joy (Clements) Zard.
He attended school in Mt. Vernon and graduated in 1966 from Mt. Vernon High School.
Duane joined the South Dakota National Guard in March of 1966 and was honorably discharged in March of 1972. Duane went to work for the Davison county Highway Department on January 26, 1973 and retired on October 19, 2007.
He was a member of the Moose Lodge and the American Legion, 40&8 and was Past Commander of the American Legion Coacher-Goetsch Post 18 and past Chef De Gare of 481 of Mitchell.
Grateful for sharing his life are his children Jim Zard of NC and Diane Plucker of Sioux Falls, SD; his mother, Joy Zard, Mitchell, SD; brother Gary and wife Karen Zard of AZ; 8 grandchildren Tom, Brian, Mark and Daniel Zard, Cassandra, Steven, Joshua and Jonathan Plucker; and 3 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father.
