Obituary

Duane Moke, age 62 of Mitchell, died at his residence, on March 17, 2005. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday at the Resurrection Lutheran Church in Mitchell. Visitation will be from 6-8 PM Monday at the Will Funeral Chapel with a prayer service at 7 PM. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Cemetery. Duane was born on June 29, 1942 to William and Florence (Plamp) Moke in Parkston. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Johns Lutheran Church in rural Dimock. He grew up on a farm south of Mt. Vernon, and graduated from Stickney High School. He then attended Southern State Teachers College in Springfield, SD and graduated with a degree in music education. Upon graduation, Duane became employed as a band director in Stickney. On June 1, 1975 he married Diane Klein at the Zion Lutheran Church in Mitchell. The couple lived in Mitchell, where they owned and operated Photography by Moke. Duane also owned and operated Dakota Alumican, the Main Attraction Mall, Dakota Made, and Soupers Caf. He was also involved in many professional music groups in the surrounding areas. Duane was employed by Boyds Gunstocks Inc., of Mitchell until his retirement in 2002. He was a member of the Moose and Elks Lodges of Mitchell and also the Resurrection Lutheran Church. Duane had a fond hobby of music and woodworking. Duane is survived by his son Darin, and wife Katie of Springfield, SD and Darins mother Diane of Myrtle Beach, SC. Also Duanes mother Florence Moke of Mitchell, one brother Arlen and wife Anne of Mitchell, and a sister Carolyn and husband Denni Kost of Rapid City. He is also survived by one granddaughter, Summer Rose Moke of Springfield, and a host of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father William and an uncle Walter Moke. In lieu of flowers, memorials would be preferred.
