Douglas Leroy Nurnberg, 68, of Forestburg, SD, died Tuesday August 2, 2011, at his home. Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Saturday August 6 at the Forestburg Lutheran Church with burial at the Silver Creek Cemetery in Forestburg. Visitation will be 6-8pm Friday August 5 at Will Funeral Chapel with a prayer service beginning at 7:00 PM. Doug was born March 13, 1943 to Ernest and Gladys (Fouberg) Nurnberg at the Methodist Hospital in Mitchell. He attended Forestburg High School where he graduated in 1961. He then attended Southern State Teacher College in Springfield, SD for one year before he went to work for Coates Electric. He worked there from 1962 until 1966. In 1966 he started his own electrical business, Nurnberg Electric, where he has been an electrical contractor for the rest of his life. During this time he taught at Mitchell Tech from 1972 to 1976 in electrical construction and maintenance. Doug met his wife Elma (Toby) Eileen (Hunter) Nurnberg at Forestburg High School. They were married July 2, 1967 at the Forestburg Lutheran Church. They were married for 44 years. Doug was a member of the Forestburg Lutheran Church, a member of the church choir and the Woonsocket National Guard from 1964 to 1976. Doug enjoyed playing the guitar as a member of several different bands, hunting and fishing with his kids, spending time with both kids and grandkids, and painting in his free time. Doug was very social and could spend hours just visiting with people. He was notorious for finding people on the streets to talk to. He loved watching sports including watching his grandkids play school sports. Grateful to have shared his life are his wife Elma, their four sons, Russ Nurnberg of Watertown, Clint (Jeniffer) Nurnberg of Mitchell, Jason Nurnberg of Forestburg, and Scott Nurnberg of North Sioux City, SD. 5 grandchildren, Blake, Alex, and Kala Nurnberg of Watertown, and Kaden and Taryn Nurnberg of Mitchell. Doug had a brother Dennis Nurnberg of Forestburg and a sister Judy (Dwight) Hunter of Forestburg, and an uncle Dale (Diane) Nurnberg of Spicer, MN. Doug was preceded in death by his father, Ernest, his mother Gladys, a grandson Blake, and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
