Douglas "Doug" Koch, age 57, of rural Plankinton, SD died Sunday, January 15, 2012 at his home after a battle with cancer. Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Thursday at St. John's Catholic Church in Plankinton, SD. Arrangements are under the direction of the Will Funeral Chapel. Douglas "Doug" Eugene Koch, son of William Eugene Koch and Mary Magdeline Mohnen, was born on November 14, 1954 in Mitchell, SD. He grew up on a farm in Aurora County, SD and attended Pleasant Lake Country School. Doug graduated from Stickney High School in 1973. After his schooling he farmed with his parents on the family farm. He was united in marriage with Sharon Placek on September 4, 1976 at St. John Catholic Church in Plankinton, SD. Doug worked at the elevator in Plankinton and in 1978 purchased their own farm. He later was employed at the elevator in Armour, SD and then finally for the Farmers Alliance Elevator in Corsica. Doug worked full time and farmed part time. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Stickney, SD. Doug enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening and working in the shop to create various one of a kind gifts for people. Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Sharon Koch, Plankinton, SD; three children, Nicholas Koch and his wife, Deborah, Humble, TX, Amy Koch and her significant other, Dustin Houska, Sioux Falls, SD, Angela Koch, Plankinton, SD; two grandchildren, Julie and Ryan Koch, Humble, TX; his mother, Mary (Koch) Vinz and her husband, Warren, Spencer, SD; seven sisters, Doris (Koch) Maas and her husband, Larry, Plankinton, SD, Lynn (Koch) Buck and her husband, Mike, Scotland, SD, Janet (Koch) Ham and her husband, George, Hartford, SD, Lisa (Koch) Greene and her husband, Carl, Plankinton, SD, Polly (Koch) Olsen and her husband, Larry, Plankinton, SD, Mary (Koch) Palo and her husband, Gary, Hot Springs, SD, Marjie (Koch) Peed and her husband, Larry, Page, NE; a brother, Robert Koch, Plankinton, SD; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, William Eugene Koch.
