Douglas D. Ewing age 82, of Mitchell, SD died Monday September 24, 2007 at Seasons Hospice in Rochester, MN. Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Friday at Holy Family Catholic Church with burial at the American Legion Cemetery, Mitchell, SD. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 PM Thursday at the Will Funeral Chapel with a wake service beginning at 7 PM. Douglas D. Ewing, son of Clarence and Catherine (Holton) Ewing, was born August 20, 1925 in Delmont, SD. He grew up and attended school in Delmont. Doug entered the US Army on September 15, 1950 and served as a Corporal at Fitzsimons Army Base in Denver, CO. He has honorably discharged on June 30, 1953. Doug was united in marriage to Mary Jane Graham in Denver, CO August 29, 1952. The couple made their home in Delmont, SD. In 1959 they moved to Jacksonville Beach, FL and Doug attended Court Reporting School. The couple moved to Mitchell, SD in 1963. While in Mitchell, Doug was employed by the Davison County Court as a Circuit Court Reporter for the 4th Judicial Court. Later he began his own business as a freelance court reporter and retired in 1999. In his retirement Doug enjoyd reading, gardening, basketball, having coffee with his friends and spending with his children and grandchildren. He especially enjoyed visiting Winona, MN and walking along the levee by the Mississippi River. Doug was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church and the American Legion. He was also a member of the South Dakota Bar Association. Grateful for having shared his life are his four children, Patricia Ann Ewing, Parkston, SD; Marianne (Steven) Texley, Winona, MN, James Ewing, Mitchell, SD, and Catherine Mary Ewing, Rochester, MN; four grandchildren, Michelle Marie Kulas, Lincoln, NE, Jennifer Anne Texley, Minneapolis, MN, Meghan Mary Texley, Bend, OR, and Ryan Steven Texley, Winona, MN. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Jane Ewing on August 6, 2004; his parents; one brother and is survived by one sister.
