Dorothy "Dottie" Van Overschelde age 85, from Mitchell died Tuesday, July 11, 2017 at Prairie View Healthcare Community in Woonsocket. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 PM Friday, July 14, 2017 at the Will Funeral Chapel. Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Saturday, July 15, 2017 at the First Presbyterian Church in Mitchell. Burial will be in Eventide Cemetery in Woonsocket.

Dottie Mae Swearingen-Van Overschelde was born April 4, 1932 to Lloyd and Grace (Foley) Duncan in Day County, SD. She was married to Alfred Arthur Swearingen on August 15, 1948 to January 20, 1984. To this union three sons were born Fred, Mick and Rob.

On February 14, 1987 Dottie married Marvin Eugene Van Overschelde and lived in Mitchell until her death on July 11, 2017.

During her life, Dottie made a career of lighting up other people's lives by waitressing. Her smile and great personality were hard to resist. She was an avid animal lover no matter what the animal she'd give them her heart. Dottie's love of bells almost took over the house, with a total of over a thousand bells with no-one alike!

Grateful for sharing her life are her husband Marvin of Mitchell, SD; sons Fred and Marge Swearingen of Sioux Falls, Mick and Judy Swearingen of Sioux Falls and Rob and Marti Swearingen of Hartford; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

Dottie is preceded in death by her parents; first husband Alfred Arthur Swearingen in 1984 and one son "Fred" Alfred Frederick Swearingen in 2013.
