Obituary

Dorothy Joanne Thome, age 85, of Mitchell, SD died Thursday, January 12, 2017 at Firesteel Healthcare Community. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 AM Wednesday, January 18, 2017 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church with burial at Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Tuesday, January 17, 2017 at the Will Funeral Chapel with a prayer service beginning at 7:00 PM.

Dorothy Joanne Thome, daughter of Michael and Josephine (Schoenfelder) Weber, was born December 9, 1931 in rural Mitchell, SD. She attended Prosper Center Country School in Davison County, SD.

Dorothy made her home in Mitchell and was employed at the Armour Creamery from 1952 to 1959. She was united in marriage with Sylvester Thome on April 19, 1958 in Rock Rapids, IA. The couple continued to make their home in Mitchell. While in Mitchell, Dorothy was employed at the Brig Café from 1960 to 1965, the Sunshine Café from 1965 to 1969, the Red Owl Restaurant from 1969 to 1972, and served as a Tupperware dealer from 1975 to 1980. The couple moved to North Platte, NE for a short time and Dorothy was employed as a convenience store manager. The returned to Mitchell and she worked as a waitress at the I-90 Café from 1988 to 1993.

In her retirement, Dorothy enjoyed crocheting, ceramics, needle work, plastic canvas, bingo and playing cards.

She was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church.

Grateful for having shared her life are her three children, Kathy (Craig) Dotseth, Apple Valley, MN, Tami (Dean) Buntrock, St. Ansgar, IA, Sue (David) Thill, Mitchell, SD; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; five brothers, Sylvester Weber, CO, Floyd Weber, CO, Michael Weber, CO, Tom (Karen) Weber, Yankton, SD, Bernard (Kathy) Webe, TXr; three sisters, Arlene (Bob) Ellis, Reliance, SD, Theresa Weber, Mitchell, SD, Yvonne Krumm, Farmer, SD.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Sylvestor on October 10, 2005; an infant son, Kenny in 1962; her parents; three sisters, Anna Mae Hall, Shirley Gunn and Mary Margaret; and a brother, Don Weber.
