Dorothy Steilen, age 85, of Alexandria, died February 15, 2005 at the Firesteel Healthcare Center. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, February 21 at St. Mary of Mercy Catholic Church in Alexandria. Visitation will be from 6-8 PM Monday at the church with a prayer service and rosary at 7 PM. Burial will be in St. Mary of Mercy Catholic Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of the Will Funeral Chapel. Dorothy Edna Steilen was born September 26, 1920, in rural Alexandria, SD to Clarence E. and Edna Pearl (Bennett) Kewley. She attended Pleasant #3 Country School. She was united in marriage with Clarence Heiter on February 5, 1939 in Alexandria, SD. Dorothy was united in marriage with Vernon Steilen on September 18, 1970. She was a member of St. Marys Catholic Church. Dorothy enjoyed gardening, cooking, and canning and loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Survivors include her husband, Vernon Steilen, Alexandria; two daughters: Kaye (Jon) Smith, Alexandria; K. Jeanne (Gary) Heineman, Clark, SD; ten grandchildren and twenty-three great grandchildren; six sisters: Lavina Flanagan, Elk Point, SD, Bernita Tammen, Emery, SD, Lillian Blankenship, Alexandria, SD, Fern Degen, Mitchell; Vida (Marvin) Champion, Evansville, Indiana, Fauna (Randy) Kappenman, Mitchell; two brothers: Harold Kewley, Vallejo, CA and Clarence Kewley Jr. Sioux Falls and a special employee from Firesteel Healthcare Center, Linda Robertson. She was preceded in death by her parents, four sisters and two brothers.
