Dorothy Marie Malde, age 94, of Mitchell, SD passed away Saturday, July 15, 2017 at Stonecrest at Burlington Creek, in Kansas City, MO under hospice care. Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Saturday, July 22, 2017 at First United Methodist Church in Mitchell, SD with burial at Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of the Will Funeral Chapel.
Dorothy Marie Greene, daughter of Hiram Hoyt and Mae Luella (Moe) Greene, was born December 3, 1922 in Davison County, SD. Dorothy was the oldest child of this union. She has four sisters Arlene Swann, Helen Simonds, Barbara Stark and Sandra Greene and four brothers Jack Greene, Richard LeRoy Greene, James Greene and Lester (Ladd) Greene.
Dorothy did m
any things in her life. She graduated from Mitchell High School in 1940 after attending Davison Country Rural Schools. She then received her teaching certificate from Notre Dame and taught in Davison County Rural Schools. During WWII she worked in the Ration office.
Dorothy was united in marriage with John Malde on January 12, 1947 in Mitchell, SD. After her marriage Dorothy was a homemaker and farm wife. She served on township school boards and Davison County rural school reorganization board. Dorothy went to work at Dakota Wesleyan in the 1960's working in the Public Relations and Academic Dean and Registrars offices. She then completed her degree and taught at MTI. Dorothy served on many other boards throughout her life including Wesley Acres and Mitchell Historic Society. She moved to Kansas City in May of this year to be close to her granddaughter, Melissa.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Mitchell.
Grateful for having shared her life are her three children, LaVonne Marie (Ed) Kothe, Nathrop, CO, Joyce Elaine (Brad) Fowler, Okatie, SC, Douglas John Malde, Phoenix, AZ; three grandchildren, EJ Kothe, Melissa Kothe and Liz Fowler Walter; two great grandchildren, Ashley Howell, and Liam Walders; and four great great grandchildren.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, John Malde; her parents; a grandson, EJ Kothe; and her siblings, Jack, Roy, Arlene, Helen, Barbara, Sandra and James.
