Dorothy Yvonne Lassegard, age 90, of Berlin, MD (formerly of Mitchell, SD) passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Saturday, February
10, 2024. A memorial service will be held at1:00 PM Saturday June 15, 2024 at Will Funeral Chapel. Visitation will begin one hour prior.

Dorothy was born on March 1, 1933, in Bowdle, SD the daughter of Henry and Melita Hafner. Dorothy grew up on a farm outside of Ethan, SD, graduating from Ethan High School in 1950. Immediately following, she entered nursing school at The Presentation Sisters College of Nursing in
Aberdeen, SD where she obtained her Registered Nurse license on June 16, 1953. She was the first in her family to graduate from college.

Dorothy started her nursing career at St. Joseph Hospital in Mitchell, SD. She continued to work as a nurse both in the hospital setting and as a
clinician for her entire career. Dorothy married Richard Wayne Lassegard on February 11, 1955 at Zion Lutheran Church in Mitchell, SD. Richard was a disabled veteran following his service during the Korean War, and Dorothy cared for him diligently over their 59 years of marriage until the moment of his death in November 2014.

Dorothy and Richard were active and generous community members in Mitchell. They raised four beautiful daughters and lovingly gave of their time, energy and support to their five grandchildren. Dorothy enjoyed traveling and following retirement, Dorothy and Richard traveled extensively around the United States for several years. Dorothy also enjoyed a wonderful trip to Paris, France with her daughter and granddaughter.

Dorothy's biggest accomplishment by far was her 42-years of sobriety. Dorothy was a great advocate for women by starting and leading many
Alcoholics Anonymous meetings, where she was a sponsor to dozens, helping many people overcome the addiction of alcoholism. Apart from
her loving family, this is truly her legacy.

After 50 years of living in Mitchell, Richard and Dorothy moved to Berlin, MD in 2010 where they enjoyed their final years living close to their
daughter and grandchildren.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Wayne, her parents, and eight of her siblings.

She is survived by her four daughters, Stephanie George of Berlin, MD, Susan (Preston) Osteen, of Green Lake, WI, Sherri Luttrell of Edwardsville, IL, and Sandi (Mike Bontje) Lassegard of Sioux Falls, SD; her grandchildren Lindsey (Jeremy Hudson) George, Michael (Brianna) George, Kaitlyn Boscaljon, Douglas and Amy Luttrell; her greatgrandchildren Collin Dennis, Jadyn George and Scout and Piper Boscaljon; her adoring brother Donald (Jill) Hafner, sister-in-law Mary Ellen Hafner, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Dorothy was dearly beloved by all who knew her. She will be deeply missed.
