Doris M. Thompson, age 77, of rural Letcher, SD died Monday, September 18, 2017 at her home under hospice care with her husband at her side. Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Thursday, September 21, 2017 at Storla Lutheran Church; Storla, SD with burial at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, rural Letcher, SD. Visitation will be from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Wednesday at the Will Funeral Chapel with a prayer service beginning at 7:30 PM.

Doris M. Thompson, daughter of Algodt and Winnie (Kinsley) Dahl, was born September 20, 1939 in Mitchell, SD. She attended two elementary country schools and later graduated from Mitchell High School in 1957. After her graduation, Doris was employed at Northwestern Public Service for a short time.

Doris was united in marriage with Oscar Thompson on May 31, 1959 at New Home Lutheran Church in Mitchell, SD. She spent many of her years being a devoted farm wife. Doris worked at the Storla Sunset Nursing Home for 19 years. In her retirement, she remained on the farm until the time of her passing.

She was an active member of Storla Lutheran Church.

One of her greatest pleasures in life was family and holiday gatherings at the farm. Doris was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She always enjoyed and looked forward to the news about the grandchildren. Doris kept up on the grandchildren through newspaper clippings.

Grateful for having shared her life are her husband, Oscar Thompson, Letcher, SD; her children, Quentin (Jackie) Thompson, Mitchell, SD, Karla (Adrian) Ludwig, Lester, IA; six grandchildren, Sean Thompson, Erica Thompson, Heather (Jon) Nemechek, Tyler (Melissa) Knobloch, Courtney Knobloch, Riley Knobloch; three great grandchildren, Taryn Knobloch, Mariah Knobloch and Bryce Knobloch; a sister, Ruth (Earl) Guymon, Mitchell, SD and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Orland and Robert Rothlisberger.
