Doris F. Schafer, age 90, of Wessington Springs, SD died Friday, October 31, 2014 at Weskota Manor Nursing Home. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Wednesday, November 5, 2014 at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Wessington Springs, SD with burial at Prospect Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM Tuesday, November 4, 2014 at Our Saviors Lutheran Church with prayer service beginning at 7:00 PM. Arrangements are under the direction of the Will Funeral Chapel. Doris F. Schafer, daughter of Christian and Martha (Wolter) Schafer, was born March 14, 1924 on farm in Jerauld County, SD. She attended Barber Rural School, Wessington Springs Public School and graduated from Augustana Academy. Doris received her nursing training at Lutheran Deaconess School of Nursing in Minneapolis, MN. She later completed her religious studies at Prairie Bible Institute in Three Hills, Alberta, Canada. Doris served as a medical missionary to the African people in Kenya and Tanzania for 36 years, returning to Wessington Springs in 1989. In 2009 she became a resident of Weskota Manor. She was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church in Wessington Springs, SD. Doris enjoyed gardening, sewing and attending local activities. Grateful for having share her life are her brother, Glen (Betty) Schafer, Wessington Springs, SD; eight nieces and nephews; 10 great nieces and nephews; many great great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Ella Schafer; a brother, Harold Schafer; and a sister-in-law, Vera Schafer.
