Doris Jager, 92, of Mitchell, South Dakota passed away on Friday, October 10, 2025, at her home in Mitchell.  Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Thursday, October 16, 2025, at the Alexandria United Methodist Church in Alexandria.  Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at the church.

Doris Arleen Jager was born on May 19, 1933, to Ernest and Marie (Pedersen) Kopfmann.  She was the fourth of twelve children born.  She grew up on the family farm southwest of Alpena.

On March 7, 1954, she married Kenneth A. Jager in Alpena, SD.  They lived in Savannah, Georgia where Kenneth was stationed until his discharge in January 1955.  They returned to Wessington, SD where they worked for a cattle rancher for several years.  Later, they returned to Alexandria where they lived on a farm.   She worked for many years as a seamstress at Smith Manufacturing in Mitchell, SD.

Doris loved to sew.  She collected dolls.   She was known for making her lefse (a Norwegian flatbread) and chocolate chip cookies.   She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Alexandria, SD.

She is survived by two sons, Don and wife Mary, Fulton and Dennis and wife Jessica, Alexandria; two daughters, Patricia Wenande and husband Tim, Alexandria and Teresa Byrd and husband Geoff, Mitchell; eighteen grandchildren; and twenty great-grandchildren; her siblings, Eldora Hasz, Vera Salter, Kathryn Larsen, Paul (Ina) Kopfmann, Lawrence (Karen) Kopfmann, Ivan Kopfmann, and Darwin (Terri) Kopfmann.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; one grandson, Jayden Jager; one granddaughter, Alivia Wenande; two sisters and two brothers, Esther Madsen, Marvell Kopfmann (in infancy), Ronny Kopfmann, and Ordell Kopfmann.
