Doris Ilene (Nielsen) Gonsor, age 75, of Mitchell, SD died Sunday, January 15, 2006 surrounded by her family after a courageous battle with cancer. Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Tuesday, January 17, 2006 at First Lutheran Church with burial at Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Monday at the Will Funeral Chapel with a Prayer Service followed by a Starlight Services beginning at 7:00 PM Monday. Doris Nielsen, daughter of Peder and Jennie (Stenseng) Nielsen, was born December 8, 1930 in Wilmot, SD. She attended Wilmot Public School, graduating from Wilmot High School in 1948. Doris later graduated from Northern State Teachers College in 1963 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education. Doris was united in marriage with John Gonsor in 1952. She taught school at Lee Township #5 in Wilmot and at Farmer Public Schools. She later moved to Mitchell and was employed at the Village Bowl, Mitchell Retirement Home and the Holiday Inn. She was a member of First Lutheran Church, the James Valley Senior Citizens and Past Worthy Matron of Starlight Chapter #41. Doris was a cub scout leader, a girl scout leader, a RSVP volunteer and a recipient of the Good Samaritan Award. Grateful for having shared her life are her daughter, Linda Kaus and her husband, Paul, Mitchell, SD; two sons, Jon Gonsor and his wife, Nancy, Pierre, SD, Allyn Gonsor and special friend, Anna, Fremont, NE; eight grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren and a brother, Clifford Nielsen and his wife, Adelina, Peever, SD She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Bernice Olson; one brother, Clarence Nielsen; a daughter-in-law, Connie Gonsor; grandchildren, Shaun Royalty and Jodie Gonsor.
