Obituary

Doreen Mary Leach, age 80, of Alexandria died Sunday June 8, 2008 at the Avera Brady Health and Rehab Center in Mitchell. Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Thursday June 12, 2008 at St. Mary of Mercy Catholic Church in Alexandria, SD with burial at St. Mary of Mercy Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 PM Wednesday at the church with prayer service beginning at 7:30 PM. Services are under the direction of Will Funeral Chapel. Doreen Mary Guischer, daughter of Frank and Julia (Farley) Guischer, was born in Hanson Township on the homesteaded family farm in rural Alexandria, SD on October 25, 1927. She attended Pleasant Township Country School until her freshman year of high school when she attended Alexandria High. Doreen graduated valedictorian of her class of 1946. Doreen later moved to Custer, SD where she worked at the sanitarium. While in Custer, she met her husband Lloyd Leach. The couple was united in marriage on April 22, 1957 in Edgemont, SD. They later settled in Hot Springs to raise their children. In 1972 the couple moved to the family farm five miles outside of Alexandria, SD. Over the years, Doreen enjoyed gardening, plants, good conversation, traveling, but most importantly spoiling her grandkids. She was loyally devoted to her family. Doreen was a member of St. Mary of Mercy Catholic Church, the American Legion Womens Auxiliary, and Sacred Hearts. She enjoyed being with her friends at these functions. Grateful for having shared her life are her four children, Cherlyn Leach, Winner, SD, Peggy (Stephen) Baugher, Marshall, MN, Michael Leach, Mitchell, SD, Pat (Nancy) Leach, Alexandria, SD; six grandchildren, Erin Whitcomb, Minneapolis, MN, Derek Whitcomb and his fianc Melissa Malloy, Arden Hills, MN, Joshua and Rebecca Leach, Mitchell, SD, Kimberly and Timothy Leach, Alexandria, SD. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd Leach; her parents; a brother, Francis; and infant sister, Dorothy.
