Doreen Ann Kurtenbach, age 85, of Mitchell, SD died Tuesday, January 9, 2018 at Firesteel Healthcare Center. Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Saturday, January 13, 2018 at the Will Funeral Chapel with burial at American Legion Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM Saturday at the Will Funeral Chapel at the Will Funeral Chapel.

Doreen Ann Kurtenbach, daughter of James H. and Ann E. (Zastrow) Burns, was born in rural Columbia, SD. She attended parochial school in Columbia and graduated from Aberdeen Central in 1951. Doreen was united in marriage with Leonard Hammrich in 1952 at an US Army Base in Georgia. While Leonard was serving in the US Army, she moved back to Aberdeen and was employed at a drug store. The couple later lived in Redfield and Webster.

Doreen was then united in marriage with Robert Kurtenbach in the mid 1970's. The couple made their home in Mitchell, where Doreen was employed at National Tea Grocery, Red Owl and later at the Daily Republic. In 2015 she became a resident of Firesteel Healthcare Center.

She was a member of First Lutheran Church in Mitchell, served as past president of the auxiliary in Webster, SD. Doreen was a former member of the James Valley Senior Center.

Survivors include her daughter, Cindy (Gary) Bussmus, Mitchell, SD; 4 grandchildren, Amy (Cameron) Puepke, Mitchell, SD, Jon (Nichole) Bussmus, Mitchell, SD, Kyle (Cami) Bussmus, St. Onge, SD, Justin Bussmus, Mitchell, SD; 4 great grandchildren, Zoey and Ruger Bussmus, Porter and Peyton Puepke and baby Puepke; numerous other family members.

She was preceded in death by on infant son; her husband, Robert Kurtenbach; her parents and an infant sister.
