Dora M. (Colvin) Simpson, age 80 died Monday January 16, 2012 at Avera Queen of Peace Hospital in Mitchell. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Saturday at First United Methodist Church in Mitchell with burial at Mizpah Cemetery in Plankinton, SD. Visitation will be two hours prior to the service at the church. Dora Colvin, daughter of Jay and Josephine ( Sobek) Colvin, was born February 12, 1931 in Chamberlain, SD. She lived in many different places growing up, from South Dakota to Missiouri and then back to South Dakota. Dora received her upper grade and high school education in Plankinton, SD. She was united in marriage with Roy Simpson in 1950. The couple lived in many different places, mostly on farms and ranches in West River, SD. These places include Reliance, Ft. Thompson and Presho. Dora worked as a cook for ranch hands and then later as a cook in the school systems of Reliance and Presho before moving to Mitchell in 1979. While in Mitchell she cooked and did diet clerk work at St. Joseph Hospital and later at Avera Queen of Peace for 15 years until retiring in 1994. Dora was a member of First United Methodist Church in Mitchell. Grateful for having shared her life are her children, Randy Simpson and his wife, Georgia, Oacoma, SD, Rick Simpson and his wife, Betty Jo, Rapid City, SD, Robin Ferrin and her husband, Wayne, Parkston, SD; nine grandchildren, Renae Orth, Rochelle Harris, Ron Simpson, Mandy Simpson, Cary Simpson, Roxanne Pritzkau, Ryan Simpson, Bradley Johnson, and Quenten Johnson; twelve great grandchildren, Devin Santana, Payton Flakus, Brittani Harris, Kolton Harris, Dakotah Simpson, Alexis Simpson, Jaiden Simpson, Skyler Cullen, Hunter Pritzkau, Austin Simpson, Georgia Eggert, and Hannah Johnson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Simpson in 2007.
