Donna Zoe Van Overschelde, age 80, of Mitchell, SD died Saturday, April 6, 2024 at her home under hospice care surrounded by her family. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM Friday, April 12, 2024 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church with burial at Servicemen's Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM Thursday, April 11, 2024 at the Will Funeral Chapel with a prayer service followed by a time of sharing beginning at 7:00 PM.

Donna was born in Mitchell, SD to Harold and Marion (Irwin) Anderson. She was raised in Mitchell and attended school here graduating in 1962. On June 23, 1962 she married the love of her life, Leo Van Overschelde.  Together they raised 5 amazing kids (just ask her). She lived and worked in Mitchell all of her life, not ever wanting to wander far from home. The jobs she cared most for were being a Nurses Aid at St. Joseph's hospital working the 3pm-11pm shift; she was the manager of the Corn Palace ticket office for 18 years; and later was a home health care provider. She very much enjoyed caring for the elderly.

Donna was well-respected in all that she did. Mom and Dad were people of good faith, good work ethic, and dedicated time to develop and support youth programs in our community. She enjoyed sewing, especially quilts. She repaired a lot of uniforms for Mitchell Kernel Football and Legion Baseball. Most of all, she loved being a mother and grandmother. Her life was spent supporting her children in all that they did, always our biggest fan. Our house was the gathering spot, and the door was always open. Our friends became part of our family. You could always come in, be fed a good meal, have a great conversation, and leave feeling cared for and loved.

Being blessed and honored to share her life are her 5 children, Kevin Van Overschelde; Kimberly Gamber; Karen Van Overschelde; Kent (Kelsey Puck) Van Overschelde; Kaydee (Maverick)Harrington. Twelve grandchildren; Levi, Levi Culver, and Desirae; Dillon and Dakota Gamber; Carter; Joseph, Lauren, Stratton, Matthew; Zoey and Kennett Harrington. 5 great grandchildren; HaLeigh Van Overschelde, Harper, Lennox, and Charlie Kayser, Everett Gamber. Kim Van Overschelde, Jon Gamber, Sister-in-laws Peggy Van Overschelde, Verna Anderson and Glenda Van Overschelde; Brother-in-laws, Ray and Pam Van Overschelde and Gene Gates. Many dear family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Leo; her parents Harold and Marian Anderson; in-laws Joseph, Sr. and Gladys Van Overschelde; Joseph Van Overschelde, Jr. Richard and Iona Van Overschelde, Rita Gates, Ann Van Overschelde,  Darlene and Bud Koster, Larry and Janice Anderson, Bill Anderson, Delores and David Hoffman, nephew Ronnie Anderson, niece Darcy Constant.

Donna was a big fan of Kernel and DWU Athletics. She spent lots of time and made special life-long friends including Greta Grosdidier and Jean Ammon. We encourage anyone attending her celebration of life to wear Kernel or DWU wear. Mom would love this!
