Don Dale Prouty, son of Donald and Janet (Olsen) Prouty, was born March 24, 1957 in Mitchell, SD. He grew up in Alexandria, SD and graduated from Alexandria High School. Slim met Betty when she was a waitress and he was working on a road crew. On their first date, Slim was late because he had to take a gravel road to pick up Betty. The date went well after they washed his car. Betty and Slim were married on September 23, 1977 at Lake Preston, SD.
Being a mechanic was in Slim's blood, and it was something he passed on to his sons. If he wasn't in the house, he was in the garage tinkering. Slim believed in hard work, whether that was working in the garage, on race cars or driving for UPS. Vacations were a time to catch up on work around the house, although Betty did convince Slim to go to Hawaii once and Las Vegas several times.
Slim's Galaxy 500 was his pride and joy, even waxing it when it was already shining.
Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Betty Prouty, Alexandria, SD; two sons, Billy (Kylene) Prouty, Alexandria, SD and Terry (Sara) Prouty, Parker, SD; five grandchildren, Myles, Dylan, Ryatt, Graham and Atlee; a sister, Shirley Aull, Excelsior Springs, MO.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and a sister.
