Obituary

Donald Leetch age 92, of Santee, CA formerly of Mitchell died April 1, 2014 in San Diego, CA. Memorial services will be 1:00 PM, Saturday, May 28, 2016 at the Will Funeral Chapel in Mitchell with visitation one hour prior to the services at the funeral home. Burial will be in the American Legion Cemetery with military rites.

Donald Val Leetch was born June 30, 1921, in Scotland, SD to Clifford A. and Marie (Ide) Leetch. He graduated from White Lake High School in 1939 and joined the US Navy in September, 1939. While serving Don fought in the invasions of Sicily and Marshall Islands, and survived the sinking of the USS Erie from a German torpedo off of Curacao on November 12, 1942. He was authorized to wear a number of service medals and also received two commendations during his tour of duty.

On August 22, 1953 he married Shirley Maxine Davis in Mitchell, SD. Don's hobbies included music, playing in the Mitchell Municipal Band for over 40 years, operating his amateur radio equipment, volunteering activities, and enjoying family and friends. Don was a former member of St. Mary's Episcopal Church as a Licensed Chalice Bearer, Lay Minister, choir member and Sunday School Teacher. He retired from Civil Service in 1978, and later moved to Santee, CA, enjoying the past 10 years of retirement.

Grateful for sharing his life are his wife Maxine: daughter Barbara Leetch (Warren Savage) of Santee, CA, son Gregory Leetch (Laurie) of Pleasanton, CA; grandchildren Jonathan, Brian and Michelle Leetch, NyCola Bouch (Chad), great-grandchildren Lucas Ahlers, Toby Bouck and step-grand-grandchild Owen Bouck.

He is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Delores Earl.
