Donald R. Larson age 72, of Sioux Falls died Sunday, May 17, 2015 at Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls. Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Thursday, May 21, 2015 at the Will Funeral Chapel in Mitchell. Visitation will be from 5:30 to 7:30 PM Wednesday May 20, 2015 at the Miller Funeral Home in Sioux Falls. Visitation in Mitchell will be one hour prior to the services at the Will Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in Serviceman's Memorial Cemetery. Donald R. Larson, son of Melvin and Velma (Brown) Larson, was born on August 22, 1942 in Long Beach, CA. He grew up on the family farm and attended school in Mitchell, SD, graduating in 1960. Don entered into the United States Marine Corps October 27, 1961, where he proudly served in Vietnam before being honorably discharged on July 14, 1965. On June 22, 1966 he was united in marriage to Caroline Desy in Mitchell, SD. Don began his career at Hormel's in 1965 and continued until 1986. He briefly worked as a Federal Meat Inspector at Morrell's from 1986-1990 before moving onto the United States Postal Service, retiring in 2005. Grateful for having shared his life are his wife Caroline Larson, Sioux Falls, SD; three sons, Donny (Staci Carpenter-Briggs), Fremont, NE, Todd (Liz), Chester, SD, and Terry (Sheila), Calhoun, GA; 7 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; and sister Shirley McNary, Mitchell, SD. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mel and Velma Larson, Mitchell, SD.
