Donald O. Jonnassen, age 68, of Mitchell, died February 26, 2007 at Avera Brady Health and Rehab. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM Saturday, March 3, at the Resurrection Lutheran Church in Mitchell. Visitation will be from 6-8 PM Friday at the Will Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery. Donald O. Jonnassen was born April 20, 1938, in Mitchell, SD to Kenneth and Emma (Wagner) Jonnassen. He attended Eugene Field School and Junior High School. Don was united in marriage to Donna Aulner in Alexandria, SD in 1955 and they were blessed with five children born of this union. They moved from Mitchell in 1956 to Illinois, where Don worked for Wedron Sand. In 1966, they moved back to Mitchell and then he worked for Sheesley Plumbing. In 1972, Don was united in marriage to Debbie VanHill in Sisseton, SD. They were blessed with two children born to this union. Donald lived in Sisseton until moving back to Mitchell in 1982. He was then employed again with Sheesley Plumbing for a short time until he became employed in 1983 at Trail King as a maintenance man where he worked until he was forced into retirement at age 52. Donald enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing cards and dancing. He was a member of the Moose Lodge. His memory is cherished by his five children: Rhonda and husband, Bob Smith, Kenny Jonnassen, Tim Jonnassen, Donovan and wife, Amy Jonnassen, and Darla Tietz, all of Mitchell; six great grandchildren, his mother, Emma Jonnassen, Ottawa, IL, two sisters, Donna Kay and husband, Larry Sperlich, Ames IA; and Darlene and husband, Donnie Maupin, of Ottawa, IL, and one brother, John Jonnassen, of Valier, IL; grandchildren: Mike Jonnassen, Bobbie Carlson, Janessa Jonnassen, Jamie Jonnassen, Adam Tietz, Austin Tietz, and Haley Jonnassen and also several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Kenneth Jonnassen and two infant children, Donald Jr, and Laurie Ann Jonnassen.
