Don King, age 87 of Mitchell, died Sunday, November 22, 2009 at his home in Mitchell after a lengthy illness. Memorial services are 10:30 AM Friday, November 27, 2009 at the Will Funeral Chapel with burial at Servicemens Memorial Cemetery with military rites.
Don was born on June 19, 1922 in Reliance, SD to Joseph and Emily (LaBreche) King. Don grew up and graduated high school in Reliance. He enlisted in the Army and served from 1940 to 1945 in WWII. He was stationed in Italy and North Africa. He returned to Reliance and was employed at both the railroad and the mail train. On November 1, 1947 he married Mildred Husman in Reliance. Don then worked with the state highway department for 5 years before moving to Mitchell where he worked for the city. He worked in road construction with various construction companies and was employed by the Davison County Highway Department until his retirement in 1989. Don was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the American Legion.
He is survived by two daughters: Rose (Corrie) Reinhart, of Boone, NC and Rhonda King of Mitchell, SD. Two grandchildren: Greg Reinhart and Meghan Reinhart of Boone, NC and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Mildred, and a sister, Joanne Fletcher.
