Obituary
Dolores "Tootie" Nopens age 94, of Mitchell died Tuesday, August 14, 2018 at Bethany Home in Brandon, SD. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM Saturday, August 18, 2018 at Holy Family Catholic Church. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 PM Friday at the Will Funeral Chapel with a prayer service beginning at 7 PM. Burial will be in Greenhill Cemetery in Alexandria, SD.
Dolores Frances Nopens, daughter of Paul and Christina (Gassman) Zens, was born August 14, 1924 in Epiphany, SD. She attended parochial school in Epiphany and high school at Burbank. After her schooling she was employed at the defense plant located in Rozum Motors and returned home on weekends to help her family. She later was employed at an egg plant in Mitchell and later at Feinsteins.
Dolores was united in marriage with Dale Nopens on October 3, 1946 in Pipestone, MN. The couple lived in rural Alexandria where they farmed. The couple wintered in Arizona. She moved to Mitchell in the early 2000's and later lived in an apartment by the lake.
She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, the Fairview Community Club, the Fairview Extention Club, Quilting and Embroidery Club, Card Club. Dolores enjoyed making jewelry, quilting, embroidery and reading.
Grateful for having shared her life are her three children, Tim (Anne) Nopens, Lake Preston, SD, Tam Fluth, Sioux Falls, SD, Craig (Dorothy) Nopens, Lake Preston, SD; 10 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dale Nopens on January 28, 2001; eight sibling and their spouses.
