Obituary

Dolores Hoffman, age 85, of Mitchell, SD (formerly of Alexandria, SD) died Sunday, January 13, 2013 at Avera Brady Health and Rehab. Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Tuesday, January 15, 2013 at St. Mary of Mercy Catholic Church in Alexandria, SD with Fr. Jerry Ranek, Celebrant and Fr. Ron Garry, Con-celebrant. Burial will be at St. Martin's Catholic Cemetery in Emery, SD. Visitation will be from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM Monday, January 14, 2013 at St. Mary of Mercy Catholic Church in Alexandria with a prayer service beginning at 7:00 PM. Dolores Ann Hoffman was born on September 17, 1927 in Emery, SD to Jennie (Joachim) and Tom Fahy. She attended Emery Grade School and went on to graduate from Bridgewater High School. She married Harold Hoffman on May 5, 1947 in Bridgewater, SD. She and Harold farmed in the Bridgewater-Emery area until 1965 and then moved to Farmer and had a dairy farm until 1987. They were members of the Moose Lodge and National Farmers Organization and Farmers Union. Dolores loved taking care of her family and joined in the daily "milking" chores while maintaining the household. She was an active member of the Catholic Church and shared her time and talents as an organist and CCD (religious education) Teacher. She was a member of the Altar Society and Ladies' Auxiliary. In 1988, they moved to Alexandria where they were actively involved in St. Mary's parish, opening their home to visitors of the Marian Congress, some of whom she maintained life-long friendships. In 2006 she moved to Avera Brady Assisted Living, and spent the last few weeks of her life at Avera Brady Health and Rehab. Throughout the years Dolores loved music and dancing, attending many square dancing events, polka festivals, and Moose Lodge weekend dances with Harold. She was known as the ultimate care-giver and homemaker, famous for her homemade bread, potato soup, and strawberry-rhubarb jam. In recent years, she loved playing cards with her friends at Avera Assisted Living. Grateful for having shared her life are her ten children, Jane (Pat) Derrington, Amery, WI, Oran (Mary Jo) Hoffman, Emery, SD, Tom (Kathy) Hoffman, Alexandria, SD, Fay Klock, Omaha, NE, Karen (Jim) Mannie, Sioux Falls, SD, Brian Hoffman and his fiancé Wanda Seigert, Hastings, MN, Teresa (Dave) Goedeken, Columbus, NE, Brenda (Neil) Meyer, Omaha, NE, Deanna "Dede" (Cory) Collins, Forestburg, SD, Gail Gust, Scottsdale, AZ; 26 grandchildren; 33 great grandchildren; Harold's siblings and their spouses; nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold; her parents; an infant sister; brothers-in-law, Steve Weber, Russell Garry, Carl Goldstein and Norbert Hoffman; and a daughter-in-law, Diane Hoffman.
