Diann Plamp age 72, of Mitchell, SD died Thursday, December 8, 2011 at Avera Queen of Peace Hospital. Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Tuesday at First Lutheran Church in Mitchell, SD with burial at Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Monday at First Lutheran Church with a prayer service beginning at 7:00 PM. Arrangements are under the direction of the Will Funeral Chapel. Diann Faye (Hetland) Plamp, daughter of Melvin and Marie (Johnson) Hetland, was born on July 20, 1939 in Mitchell, SD. She graduated from Mt. Vernon High School in May of 1957. Diann was united in marriage with Delmar Gene Plamp on September 20, 1957 at Victor Lutheran Church in rural Mt. Vernon, SD. After their marriage, Diann was employed at G.F. Buche. The couple farmed and ranched northwest of Mitchell for 50 years. Diann was a member of First Lutheran Church where she was active in WELCA, served as a confirmation and Sunday school teacher and served on the church council. She was a 4-h Leader, served on the FHA advisory board and the hospital board. Diann was also a member of the Red Hats and the Elks Lodge. She was the inventor of the Peace Light; a solar powered memorial light created in memory of her daughter, Kim. After obtaining a patent she grew her vision into a successful business known as Cemeteries Aglow. She was given several awards including "Business Woman of the Year" in 2005 and Family Business of the year in 2003. Diann loved playing the piano and painting. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, camping with her family and the winter getaways to Texas with her husband. Grateful for having shared her life are her husband, Delmar; a son, Greg (Sheryl) Plamp, Mitchell, SD; a daughter, Sherri (Larry) Kayser, Mt. Vernon, SD; a son, Jayson (Jaclyn) Plamp, Mitchell, SD; nine grandchildren; three great grandchildren; a brother, Royce (Adonna) Hetland, Plankinton, SD; four sisters-in-law, Mary Ann Hetland, Mitchell, SD, Darlene (Jim) Paulson, Mitchell, SD, Marilyn (Terry) Hohn, Rock Falls, IL, Bev (Dean) Libra, Canton, SD; two brothers-in-law, Wayne (Dorothy) Wieczorek, Sioux Falls, SD, Kenneth (Evie) Wieczorek, Sioux Falls, SD; numerous nieces, nephews and good friends. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Kimberly Kay Schoenfelder; her parents, Melvin and Marie Hetland; a brother, Harvard Hetland; mother and father-in-law, Milford Plamp and Viola and Leonard Wieczorek.
