DeWayne E. Blacksten, age 84, of Mitchell, SD died Thursday, June 13, 2019 at Firesteel Healthcare Center. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Wednesday, June 26, 2019 at First Lutheran Church with burial at Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Tuesday, June 25, 2019 at the Will Funeral Chapel.
DeWayne Blacksten, son of Alva and Alice (Lehner) Blacksten, was born March 16, 1935 in Mitchell, SD. He received his education in Mitchell, graduating from Mitchell High School in 1955. After his schooling, DeWayne returned to the family farm. He entered the South Dakota National Guard and served for ten years. While in the National Guard, DeWayne held the national long range rifle record.
DeWayne was united in marriage with Marlys Kreuger on November 22, 1957 in Mitchell, SD. The couple made their home on the family farm west of Mitchell until 1984. DeWayne then established Blacksten Trucking and continued with his business until 2000 when he retired.
He enjoyed hunting in earlier years, but especially golfing, camping and drinking coffee with his buddies. DeWayne was a member of First Lutheran Church, the American Legion, the Moose Lodge and Lakeview Golf Course.
Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Marlys Blacksten, Mitchell, SD; four children, Rick (Sheila) "PJ" Blacksten, Elbert, CO, Doug (Joleen) Blacksten, Granville, OH, Scott Blacksten, Mitchell, SD and Becky (Bryan) Delzer, Aberdeen, SD; four grandchildren, Katlyn, Kylee, Jill and David.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Robert and Roland; four sisters, Lola, June, Leila and Roberta.
