Dessie Blanche Smith, age 76, of Mitchell died July 29, 2005. Funeral services will be 10 AM Tuesday at the Will Funeral Chapel with burial at the Eventide Cemetery in Woonsocket, SD. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 PM Monday at the Will Funeral Chapel with a prayer service beginning at 7 PM. Dessie Blanche Hutton, daughter of Millie Blanche Brewer and Charles Thomas Hutton, was born on the family homestead in Sanborn County, SD on December 27, 1928. She attended a one room school through the 8th grade and graduated from Letcher High School. Dessie was united in marriage with Ezra Samuel Smith on March 6, 1951 in Wichita Falls, TX.. From this union two children were born Janet Sue and Terry Lee. The couple lived in Oklahoma and Ezra worked for Halliburton Oil Company. Dessie was employed at many restaurants and later became manager of Kentucky Fried Chicken. In 1974 the family moved to Mitchell, SD and bought an acreage south of Mitchell. Ezra raised pigs and Dessie worked for the 3-M Company, retiring in 1988. Dessie served on the Board of the MAATC and was a strong supporter of this wonderful organization. Grateful for having shared her life are her two children, Janet McCay, Mitchell, SD, Terry Smith, Mitchell, SD; 2 grandchildren, Chris Jones and his wife Stacey, Corpus Christi TX, Heather Ott and her husband, Keith, Mitchell, SD; 3 great grandchildren, Makayla and Christopher Jones, Corpus Christi, TX, Jade Ott, Mitchell, SD; 3 sisters, Edna Knutson, Mitchell, SD, Lela Case, Mitchell, SD, Faye Cypert and her husband, Bob, Salt Lake City, UT. She was preceded in death by her husband Ezra; her parents; two brothers Dale in infancy and Wayne; a sister, Hope Farber; brother-in-laws, Kenneth Knutson, Rufus Farber and Tom Case; sister-in-law, Susie Hutton.
