Denny Hart, age 85, of Salem, formerly of Spencer, died August 30 at the Beverly Healthcare in Salem. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Friday at the Will Funeral Chapel. Visitation will be from 6-8 PM Thursday at the Will Funeral Chapel with a prayer service at 7 PM. Burial will be at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Spencer, SD. Denny was born August 15, 1920, one mile north of Spencer to Elzie and Mildred (Thompson) Hart. He was in the CCC Camp in the Black Hills in 1939-1940. He married Norma Ladner on November 2, 1942, in Valentine, Nebraska. He worked in both Mitchell sale barns for a combined total of 25 years and Canton Livestock for 15 years. He worked in the Long Beach Shipyards and the Spencer Quarry and Spencer Canvas in the 40s and early 50s, until he started his own livestock buying and trucking and gravel hauling business until he retired in 1993. He received numerous safe driving awards over the years. He was a past member of the Spencer Fire Dept. and was a member of St. Matthews Lutheran Church in Spencer until it was destroyed in the 1998 tornado and then was a member of Christ Lutheran church in Salem. He is survived by one daughter, Bette and husband, Ron Sample, of Newcastle, WY; one son, Curt Hart and wife, Kelly of Alexandria, SD; four grandchildren: Jonathon Hart, Amanda Hart, of Alexandria; Jennifer Loewen, Newcastle, WY, and Leah Barret, Boise, ID; four great grandchildren: Scott, Christopher, Matthew and Sean; a brother, Raymond Hart and wife, Lynn from Culver City, CA; a sister, LaVonne Miller and husband, Ken, Dell Rapids, SD; and two sisters-in-law: Carol Hart, White Bear Lake, MN and Carol Ann Hart, Long Beach, CA. He was preceded in death by his wife, Norma, his parents, two sisters, and two brothers.
